Interview with Kloey, owner of Hot Body Pilates in Orange County

Pilates was named a top fitness trend for 2008 by a number of publications, including Consumer Reports. Why do you think Pilates is gaining interest again?

Pilates is unique because of how it changes your entire body. It works with your deepest core muscles to balance, stretch, strengthen, and tone your overall physique. If you dedicate yourself to learning and practicing the Pilates technique you will develop the most ideal musculature structure for your body type. It develops long lean muscles that are flexible and strong which creates balance throughout the body to make it a fitness regime that is applicable to everyday life.

Beyond the physical exercise, what are the benefits of Pilates?
It can also help to give you a pain-free life. Often times people live with aches and pains that can be remedied by simply adding an appropriately suited Pilates routine for their needs. It is such an amazing fitness regimen. Anyone can try it and I am sure they will get results far beyond what they ever imagined.

How long does it take to get results?
You will feel a difference almost immediately, but it will take a few sessions to start really getting results. I suggest three times a week to get the most out of Pilates and the quickest possible results. Usually it takes a few weeks to really get going, but depending on how hard you are willing to work, your fitness background, and muscle memory, you may see results much faster.

Who is Pilates appropriate for? Anyone?
Yes absolutely anyone can do it. It can be adjusted to fit whatever level a person is starting from, whether it is a person who has never worked out before or someone who is already fit.

What makes your Pilates studio stand out?
Here at Hot Body Pilates we take a new age approach to how we conduct our sessions. As soon as you take a step into our studio filled with the funky beats of dance music and DJs, and the sweet smells of cotton candy or peppermint air sprays, you know you are getting something a little out of the traditional assumption of what Pilates consists of. We warm your core with a few traditional floor exercises, and then jump from one area of the body to the other, to create perfect sequences of exercises that address your needs in the most effective why possible. We try very hard to create a dynamic workout environment that makes our clients get to the core of what they are trying to accomplish with their overall fitness goals without losing momentum.

Any advice for those looking to do a Pilates program? Are there things to look for in selecting a studio or trainer?
First of all you need to do your research. You need to make sure your Pilates instructor is certified by a reputable program. The instructor should have a minimum of 500 hours for their certification. You should be sure that they are fully certified on all of the Pilates apparatus that they will be working with you on. Ask questions. Don’t just jump right into a program with just any studio and instructor.

Why did you decide to open a Pilates studio?
I decided to open a Pilates studio after discovering just how amazing this fitness regimen is. I absolutely love the results I was able to get from doing Pilates. I had old injuries from horseback riding accidents that caused me a great deal of pain that I had to live with. So I thought. Then I discovered Pilates. It helped me overcome those injuries and now I live a pain-free life, so I opened Hot Body Pilates to share what I have learned to as many people possible. I want to help people live a fit, healthy, and pain-free life. Pilates is incredible.
